The on-again, off-again relationship between athletes Liz Cambage and Alex Lee is over.

The 23-year-old, 6ft 8ins professional basketball player revealed details of their split to Daily Mail Australia in the Birdcage at Derby Day on Saturday. 

'I don't have a boyfriend anymore!' Liz exclaimed, admitting she was the one to give Alex the flick.

'Going through things like this [injury] shows you who's there for you and who's not,' she added cryptically, referring to her recent knee injury.

Wearing a Cue dress and Danica Erard hat for the race day at Flemginton, the Opal's star didn't appear too upset about the break-up, saying indifferently: 'S*** happens'.

The basketball bronze medalist is currently on crutches, recovering from surgery for a torn Achilles, which happened 'playing basketball in Paris of all places'.

Liz hasn't been slowed down by her injury and was back training at the Victorian Institute of Sport just nine days after surgery.

'You can sit around and ask "why me?" all day, or you can go back to work 9 days after surgery.... It's all a mindset.' Liz wrote next to a photo of herself on Instagram.

'I'm fine, so happy. Everyone's really looking after me.' Liz said of her recovery.
