Stan Berenstain and Jan Berenstain were American writers and illustrators. They created the children’s book series The Berenstain Bears c. 1951, which also became a television show. They met on their first day at art school at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art. They had two children, including writer and illustrator of children’s books Mike Berenstain.

Stan Berenstain was Jewish. He was the son of Rose (Brander) and Harry Berenstein.

Jan Berenstain was Episcopalian. She was the daughter of Marian Arstaken (Beck) and Alfred James Grant.
